Spice Merchant Ian Hemphill takes us along the ancient and modern spice routes from India, Turkey, Mexico, Sri Lanka and Zanzibar to Outback Australia. Ian discovered that there really is a brotherhood of spice merchants when he was invited to an international spice meeting in Delhi. Since that awakening, he and his wife Liz have ventured around the globe in search of spices and to see for themselves how they are grown and processed. Now he shares his passion and knowledge for everything to do with one of the world’s oldest trades. Together with Liz he watched farmers harvesting cinnamon quills as they have done for centuries, had a breathtaking experience with chillies in Gujarat, India, and followed in the footsteps of the Conquistadors to learn the magical alchemy of curing vanilla beans.
